Not on the list
Going Merry shut down in March 2026, and Scholly no longer exists as its own app; its search now lives on Sallie.com (listed above). We left off Award Scholar because its domain was registered in June 2026 and it puts official scholarship links behind a signup; we explain that in Scholarly vs Award Scholar.
Two free sources that beat every website for local money: your high school counseling office and your community foundation. Local awards get far fewer applicants than national ones.
Questions people ask
What is the best scholarship website?
For free searching, BigFuture: it's run by the College Board, it listed 43,513 scholarships in October 2026, and its filters are good. For getting applications done, Scholarly, which fills in and submits applications after you approve each one. Most students do best with one free search plus one tool that saves time.
Which scholarship websites are completely free?
BigFuture, Bold.org, Fastweb, Scholarships.com, Scholarships360, CareerOneStop, Niche, and Sallie's Scholly search are all free to students. Several make money by selling or sharing your data with colleges and marketers, so read the privacy policy before signing up.
Are scholarship websites that charge money a scam?
Not automatically. Scholarly and ScholarshipOwl charge for the time they save, not for the scholarships themselves. What's a red flag is any site that charges you to apply to one specific scholarship, or that guarantees you'll win.
Which website has the most scholarships?
By their own claims, Scholarships.com (2.7 million+ opportunities) and Fastweb (1.5 million+). Those counts include grants and closed or recurring listings. BigFuture's 43,513 results is a more useful number because it's what the search actually returns.
Is Going Merry still a good option?
No. Going Merry closed in March 2026; its parent company Earnest stopped accepting applications on March 5, 2026. See our list of Going Merry alternatives.
Can I use more than one scholarship website?
Yes, and you should. Different sites find different awards. Just keep one list of what you've applied to so you don't send duplicates.
