Scholarship apps that apply for you (and what they can't do)

Last updated October 2026 · By the Scholarly team

Short answer

Yes, a few apps will apply to scholarships for you. Scholarly fills out and submits each application after you approve it ($59.99 a year on the web), ScholarshipOwl applies from one profile and auto-reenters recurring awards ($10 to $20 a month), and Award Scholar fills provider forms with AI. None of them can write your recommendation letters, fetch your official transcript, or log in to portals as you, and none can promise you'll win.

We make Scholarly, so weigh our take accordingly. Every fact about another company on this page links to its source at the bottom, checked in October 2026. Prices and features change; confirm on their site before you pay.

4 Sallie (Scholly)

Sallie's one-form no-essay entry

sallie.com (opens in a new tab)

Not auto-apply in the usual sense, but close in spirit: one application enters you into 18 of Sallie's own no-essay scholarships.

FreeBest for Quick no-essay entries
  • Up to $18,000 total across 18 awards
  • Lives in Scholly's search, now on Sallie.com
  • Only covers Sallie's awards

What auto-apply can do

  • Fill in the repeated stuff. Name, address, school, GPA, intended major, activities, household income range. This is most of what you type on most applications.
  • Reuse your essay. The "tell us about yourself and your goals" prompt shows up everywhere. A saved personal statement covers it.
  • Submit web forms and email applications. These make up a large share of private scholarships.
  • Keep track. What was sent, when, and what's still missing.
  • Re-enter recurring drawings. ScholarshipOwl's specialty.

What it can't do

  • Recommendation letters. A teacher or counselor writes and usually uploads these directly. An app can remind you to ask. That's it.
  • Official transcripts. Your school sends these. Some providers accept an unofficial copy you upload; many don't.
  • Portals that need your login. University scholarship systems and big national programs often run their own portals with your account, sometimes with identity checks. A third party shouldn't be logging in as you, and the good tools don't.
  • Specific essay prompts. "Describe a time you failed" isn't answered by a general personal statement. You'll still write some essays yourself, and those are often the scholarships with the least competition.
  • Interviews and finalist rounds. Those are you, on a call.
  • Make you eligible. If you don't meet a requirement, sending the application anyway wastes everyone's time.

How to check an apply-for-you service before paying

  1. Can you see the price before you sign up? You can for Scholarly and ScholarshipOwl.
  2. Do you get to read each application before it's sent in your name?
  3. Does it link to the provider's official page, or hide it behind a signup?
  4. Does it promise you'll win? If so, leave.
  5. Does a free trial need your card, and when does it convert?
  6. Does it sell your data? Check the privacy policy for the word "sell."

Questions people ask

Is there an app that applies to scholarships for you?

Yes. Scholarly fills out and submits scholarship applications after you review and approve each one, on iPhone or in a browser. ScholarshipOwl applies to multiple scholarships from one profile and re-enters recurring awards. Award Scholar has an "Apply with AI" button that fills in provider forms.

Can an app write my scholarship essays?

Some will draft them. Whether you should use the draft is a separate question: some providers ask you to certify the essay is your own work, and committees read a lot of generic AI prose. Scholarly reuses the personal statement you wrote instead of generating new essays.

Can auto-apply get my recommendation letters?

No tool can write a recommendation letter for you; it has to come from your teacher, counselor, or employer. A good app will tell you when a scholarship needs one so you can ask early.

Is it allowed to use an app to apply for scholarships?

Generally yes, as long as the information is true and you've reviewed what's submitted. You're still the applicant. Read each provider's rules, because a few require you to apply personally through their own system.

Do apps that apply for you guarantee scholarships?

No, and you should walk away from any that say they do. Providers pick the winners. An app only changes how many complete applications you send.

How much do auto-apply scholarship apps cost?

Scholarly is $59.99 a year or $19.99 a month on the web. ScholarshipOwl ranges from $10 to $20 a month depending on plan length, with a $69 VIP tier. Award Scholar shows its price at checkout.
